Construction decisions inside women's dresses
These are the choices that decide whether the garment works in wear — and they are all made before cutting, not during finishing.
Negative ease is a fit decision, not a size decision
A bodycon that photographs well and a bodycon that does not ride up are different patterns. We set the stretch ratio against the actual fabric's recovery, then confirm it on a live fit sample before grading.
Bodice and skirt are balanced as one garment
On a fit-and-flare the waist seam carries the whole silhouette. We check the seam position, the skirt flare start point and the hem sweep together, so the dress does not sit high at the front.
Linings are matched to the shell, not picked from a list
A stiff lining under a fluid crepe kills the drape. We choose lining weight and stretch per shell fabric, and confirm it on the first sample.
