These are the choices that decide whether the garment works in wear — and they are all made before cutting, not during finishing.
Elastic is specified by recovery, not by width
Waistband and cuff elastics are chosen for how far they recover after repeated washing, because that is what decides the garment's usable life. A wider elastic that relaxes is worse than a narrower one that holds.
Seam bulk is engineered out
Flatlock, rolled hem and French seam finishes are selected per fabric so no ridge sits against the skin or shows through a fine outer layer.
Comfort fit is a tolerance, not a size
Sleepwear is worn loose, so the tolerance band is wider than on a fitted garment and the grade is set accordingly. Cut it to a daywear tolerance and the fit reads as tight.
