Construction decisions inside women's blazers
These are the choices that decide whether the garment works in wear — and they are all made before cutting, not during finishing.
Canvas or fused is decided at costing, not at sampling
A floating canvas front is built up in layers and moulds to the body; a fused front is quicker and holds a fixed shape. The two behave differently after a season of wear, and choosing between them moves the labour content, the minimum and the lead time.
Shoulder shape comes from three parts working together
The pad, the sleeve head and the angle of the shoulder seam set the line as a group. Change the pad on its own and the sleeve hangs wrong, which is why the three are specified as one decision.
Sleeve pitch decides whether it twists
The sleeve is set at a slight forward angle to match how an arm actually hangs. Set the pitch wrong and the sleeve rotates towards the body every time the wearer reaches forward.
