Structured construction

Corsets & Corsetry manufacturing

Boned bodices, corset tops and corseted dresses built to hold shape through a full evening.

Structured construction

Corsets & Corsetry manufacturing

A corset is a piece of engineering before it is a garment. The number and placement of bones, the strength of the busk, the interlining weight and the waist stay all determine whether the wearer can breathe and sit down. We treat it as a structure with a fabric over it.

What this category covers

  • Corset tops and bustiers
  • Corseted dresses and two-piece corset sets
  • Underbust and overbust constructions
  • Lace-up and concealed-zip closures
  • Structured bodices for strapless styles

How it is built

Construction decisions inside corsets & corsetry

These are the choices that decide whether the garment works in wear — and they are all made before cutting, not during finishing.

Bone placement follows the body, not the pattern grid

Spiral steel in the side seams, flat steel at centre front, and a gap at the waist so the corset can move with breathing. Spacing is checked against the wearer's proportions rather than being spaced evenly.

Waist stays stop the corset riding up

A grosgrain stay anchored to the side seams transfers load downward, which is what keeps a strapless corset in place after two hours of wear.

Interlining carries the load

Fusible and sew-in interlinings are selected by the shell's weight so the boning does not telegraph through a fine satin face.

Typical questions we ask

  • Is the corset the outer garment or is it worn over something?
  • How much waist reduction is intended — that sets the boning spec.
  • Does it need to be adjustable, or is it sized like a dress?
