New timeline_ larger collective: NY Fashion Tech Lab revises model for upcoming edition
NY Fashion Tech Lab is updating its offering for 2026. The non-profit_ founded in 2014 by Springboard Enterprises and specialising in platforming women-led B2B fashion technology startups_ is stepping into the new year with a revitalised structure_ ushering in evolution to adapt to needs of the industry.
While the organisation_s mission is to remain intact – connecting early- to growth-stage startups with retail executives through set programming – for 2026_ the Lab is building on efforts to foster an environment of collaboration_ introducing a revised model that reflects shifting industry priorities and a growing demand for innovation across retail.
Much of the shifts revolve around a lengthened timeline_ designed to give partners more time to sign on_ collaborate and preview startups. Change can also be seen in the widening scope of what fashion tech actually entails_ and the sectors from which such technology can benefit.
As a result_ for its 2026 edition_ NY Fashion Tech Lab will broaden the number of participating startups_ expanding the range from the current six to ten to between 16 and 20. This enlarged number will form what is now called “The Collective”_ an update to the programme_s traditional cohort model.
Following the application process_ selected finalists will present to retail and brand partners during one of two sessions scheduled for April or June 2026. Those chosen will make up The Collective_ participating in curated sessions_ meetings and programming with the Lab and its partners.
All of those that make the final cut will be showcased in an Experiential Event_ the first of its kind for the programme. Due to take place in New York City in September_ 200 retailers_ brands_ investors and press will be invited to view demonstrations by the startups_ garnering an overview of the current landscape of fashion tech.
In a statement to FashionUnited_ Jackie Trebilcock_ the programme_s managing director_ said: “Our goal with the 2026 Collective is to create more opportunities for dialogue and collaboration between B2B retail tech startups and retail leaders as the industry continues to evolve.”
